Uber Teams Up With May Mobility To Roll Out Driverless Taxi Service In Texas

Uber has forged a strategic partnership with May Mobility, a U.S.-based autonomous vehicle company, to deploy thousands of robotaxis across multiple U.S. cities. The rollout kicks off in Arlington, Texas, by the end of 2025, using Toyota Sienna hybrid minivans equipped with May’s patented Multi‑Policy Decision Making (MPDM) system, before transitioning from safety operators to fully driverless service.

Initially, Uber users in Arlington will be able to choose a May Mobility vehicle via the app. These rides will begin with onboard safety staff and eventually transition to autonomous operations. This move underlines the evolution of autonomous ride-hailing from experimental micro-transit to scalable real-world deployment.

What sets May Mobility apart is its AI-driven MPDM, which simulates thousands of possible road scenarios in real-time to navigate unpredictable environments safely—giving it an edge in handling “edge cases” on public streets. Beyond Texas, the partnership aims to bring driverless rides to additional U.S. markets starting in 2026.

For Uber, this collaboration enriches its autonomous strategy alongside existing partners like Waymo, WeRide, Volkswagen, and Wayve. Analysts describe this as a critical step toward realizing Uber’s ambition of 20,000 robotaxis by 2031, easing driver dependency and boosting margins.
